Water Services and Water Meters

COURSE OVERVIEW

Water service lines are the pipes and tubing that lead from a connection on the water main to a connection with the customer’s plumbing. Service pipe size varies depending on the pressure at the main, the distance from the main to the building, the quantity of water required and the residual pressure required by the customer. Water meters are used to measure and record the volume of water flowing through a line. The primary functions of metering are to help a water utility account for water pumped to the system and to equitably charge customers used on water they use.
